Chongwu Fish Rolls
Trademark Owner: Chongwu Food Processing Industry Association, Hui'an County
Chongwu Fish Rolls are a traditional folk snack from the coastal town of Chongwu, with a production history dating back to the Ming Dynasty in 1387. Initially created by soldiers as part of their military rations to ensure food supply and readiness, these rolls are considered a product of local border defense culture.
The main ingredient of Chongwu Fish Rolls is mackerel, a local fish widely found in the coastal waters of Chongwu. The fish is combined with a carefully measured amount of sweet potato flour, mixed with shredded meat, chopped green onions, and salt, before being thoroughly blended and fermented. The mixture is then rolled into shapes and steamed to perfection. The meticulous process ensures the rolls have a smooth, crisp texture and a fragrant, non-fishy taste that has made them a beloved delicacy among consumers.
In March 2015, Chongwu Fish Rolls were granted geographical indication certification. By 2019, they were featured on the menu of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ global promotion event and recognized as one of the top ten regional agricultural brands in Fujian. After years of development, Chongwu now boasts over 100 fish roll processing enterprises, employing over 6,000 workers and generating an annual output value exceeding 300 million yuan. The industry has also contributed to the deeper development of agriculture, sales, transport, and services in surrounding areas.
