Xiaoqiu Seaweed is a unique food product made from nori seaweed, which is either consumed directly or used in various dishes such as sushi and seafood rolls, making it a popular ingredient in local cuisine.
The seaweed is harvested from the coastal waters of Xiaoqiu Town (latitude 24.99°N, longitude 118.96°E), where it is cultivated using sustainable methods, including pillar-based, semi-floating, and fully floating raft systems. The cultivation period lasts around 40 days, with multiple harvests per year (typically 8-12).
Xiaoqiu Seaweed has a thin and even texture, with a natural purple-brown color and a rich aroma. It contains high levels of astaxanthin, protein, phycobiliproteins, and amino acids, contributing to its delicate, fresh taste and smooth mouthfeel. After harvesting, the seaweed is dried using a combination of sea breeze and sunlight, ensuring its purity and quality. In 2021, Xiaoqiu Seaweed received geographical indication certification.
