Xiaoqiu Squid
Trademark Owner: Xiaoqiu Town Fisheries Technology Association, Huian County
Xiaoqiu Squid is a special variety harvested from Xiaoqiu Town, located on the eastern coast of Huian County (latitude 24.99°N, longitude 118.96°E). The squid typically exceeds 35 cm in length, with broad, butterfly-shaped body fins and long tentacles. The flesh has a subtle red-orange hue and is slightly textured with folds, while the surface often carries a thin, sweet-tasting coating. Once cleaned, the squid reveals its fresh, rich flavor with a pleasant aroma that remains even after drying. When cooked, the squid retains a tender, crisp texture with a naturally sweet taste.
Historically, Xiaoqiu Squid has been highly regarded throughout Fujian, with local fishermen relying on it as their primary source of income, contributing to 75% of the area's total economic revenue. The traditional fishing method involves hand-catching the squid, processing it on-site, and drying it on the boat, which preserves the squid's natural flavor and nutrients. In 2021, Xiaoqiu Squid was officially granted a geographical indication certification.
