  Shenhu Sugar Taro

Trademark Owner: Shenhu Snack Industry Association, Jinjiang

Shenhu Sugar Taro is a distinctive product of Shenhu Town, Jinjiang, grown in the subtropical, humid climate ideal for the cultivation of the “Charm Taro” variety. The taro is characterized by its dense, brown skin that does not peel easily, and its soft, powdery texture. Its sweet, refreshing flavor and aromatic fragrance make it a popular food item.

The high inulin content in the taro tubers is not only beneficial for health but is also used in pharmaceuticals, as well as in the production of candies and pastries. Taro is commonly prepared by washing, peeling, and either boiling or steaming. It can be enjoyed as a sweet treat, often paired with white sugar as an alternative to grains.

In the Shenhu region, it is a tradition to eat sugar taro during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The local saying "taro and taro grandchild" symbolizes family unity and is associated with well-wishes for a prosperous life.
