The Quanzhou Institute of Cultural Heritage (hereafter referred to as the Institute) is established at Quanzhou Normal University as a research institution. It is a collaborative initiative between Peking University’s School of Archaeology and Museology, the Quanzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, and Tourism, and Quanzhou Normal University. Professor Sun Hua, the Director of the Academic Committee at Peking University’s School of Archaeology and Museology, serves as the Institute’s director.

The Institute is dedicated to integrating innovative resources from various sectors and promoting collaborative research. Its primary focus is on continuing the study of Quanzhou as a world maritime trade center during the Song and Yuan dynasties. Additionally, the Institute emphasizes research in cultural heritage conservation and sustainable development, particularly regarding World Heritage sites and the establishment of local design and consulting agencies. The Institute aims to create an innovative platform for cultural heritage conservation that integrates five key components: academic research, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, industry connections, and think tank services.

Since its establishment, the Institute has provided decision-making consultancy services for the protection and utilization of cultural heritage in Fujian Province. It has also formed cooperative relationships with various cultural heritage preservation entities in the region, working together on forward-looking and exemplary conservation and utilization projects.
