Immersive Cultural Carnival Draws Citizens and Tourists Alike
(Quanzhou Daily, August 27) — Recently, the Dehua County "Village Bowl" Competition and "Ceramic City Feast" Food Carnival took place at the China Teaware City Plaza in Sanban Town. The event culminated in the public voting of the "Top Ten Village Bowls", celebrating the most representative rural dishes of Dehua.
Using porcelain as a cultural bridge, the competition introduced an innovative model that gathered signature local dishes from all 18 townships across Dehua County, uncovering the rich depth of its rural culinary heritage. From Daiyun Black Chicken Stew in Ceramic Pot to Red Rice Herbal Soup, these rustic flavors—born of farm kitchens and kilns—were presented in exquisite locally produced porcelain. Each "village bowl" embodied the fusion of culinary craftsmanship and ceramic aesthetics, where food became both art and heritage.
A county official noted that the event leveraged Dehua's reputation as the "World Ceramic City" and its wealth of high-quality local ingredients to promote deeper integration across the agriculture, culture, tourism, and ceramics industries.
At the event, the "Dehua Village Bowl Tourism Route" and the illustrated "Village Bowl Flavor Atlas" were launched to sustain long-term cultural and economic vitality. The carnival also featured a food market, agricultural product fair, intangible cultural heritage showcases, and public performances, creating an immersive festival that combined taste, art, and community celebration.
