Quanzhou Launches Third Call for Culinary Heritage Collections
Time: 2025-08-22 18:55

To further enhance the visibility and reputation of Quanzhou as a UNESCO World Heritage City, the Quanzhou Culinary Culture Collection initiative has entered its third phase. Since its launch in October 2024, more than 150 items have already been collected for the inaugural exhibition on Quanzhou's food heritage. This new round aims to enrich the holdings of the Quanzhou Culinary Museum and present a more comprehensive picture of the city's culinary history, living traditions, and contemporary innovation.

The third collection campaign invites contributions in six categories:

Time-honoured Brands and Intangible Heritage Food Practices

Artefacts linked to historic brands and culinary traditions (e.g. moulds, packaging, account books, utensils); archival materials on master chefs or heritage practitioners; early photographs and press reports.

  Dining Spaces and Urban Foodscapes

Historical images and artefacts from restaurants, food stalls, or eateries with over 20 years of history; representative menus, signage, invoices; visual records that trace the evolution of neighbourhood dining.

  Emerging Brands and Cross-disciplinary Innovation

Promotional materials and creative outputs from new brands rooted in tradition (including trending food labels and snack chains); design and packaging works, short films, and cultural products; collaborative "food + design/technology/art" case studies.

  Food Industry Artefacts and Documentation

Tools, packaging, and records from farmers, fishers, and food factories; representative products and documentation from processing, logistics, and distribution; priority given to materials on green certification, sustainable practices, and regional specialty agriculture.

  Global Dissemination of Quanzhou Flavours

Export food samples, packaging, trademarks, and bilingual manuals; images and memorabilia from overseas Quanzhou restaurants, food festivals, and trade fairs; profiles of Quanzhou-born culinary figures with international influence.

  Banquet Menus

Menus from local hotels showcasing milestone banquets such as "full-month" celebrations, wedding feasts, and longevity banquets.

The call is open to time-honoured enterprises, ICH practitioners, Michelin- and Black Pearl-recognised restaurants, the Quanzhou Catering and Culinary Association, cultural industry research institutes, leading trade enterprises, industrial demonstration zones, and university-industry collaboration projects in design and gastronomy.
