Located on the southeast coast of Fujian, Quanzhou is a thriving hub with a rich cultural history as a UNESCO World Heritage site and a prominent city along the Maritime Silk Road. In 2023, the city’s GDP surpassed 1.2 trillion yuan, and its agricultural output reached 47.42 billion yuan. In recent years, Quanzhou has focused on developing "quality agriculture," "green farming," and "brand-building" to foster a distinctive agricultural brand centered around "Quanzhou's Best" products.
"Dehua County was designated as the first provincial pilot for national agricultural product promotion, and Anxi County earned multiple accolades for its tea industry," said Cai Longqun, Director of the Quanzhou Agricultural and Rural Bureau. He further outlined the city’s approach to enhancing agricultural product quality by focusing on brand-building, standardization, and local leadership.
The city’s agricultural initiatives have encouraged collaboration between enterprises, farmers’ cooperatives, and specialized service organizations, leading to the development of standardized production bases and a robust traceability system for agricultural products. Quanzhou has cultivated 19 nationally recognized high-quality agricultural products, ranking second among prefecture-level cities in Fujian.
Cai explained that Quanzhou focuses on tapping into the region’s historical and cultural strengths to highlight local specialties like the "Three Black" products of Dehua (black chicken, black rabbit, and black sheep). With a focus on high-quality regional branding, the city has developed numerous agricultural zones and achieved impressive results in the nationwide agricultural exhibition circuit.
Quanzhou’s commitment to industry standardization is evident in its newly launched three-year action plan (2024-2026), which aims to standardize production across the agricultural industry chain. The city has already established 146 standardized product bases and is pioneering the use of smart pest control and bioinformatics systems. It has also integrated local agricultural producers into national traceability platforms to enhance quality control.
Exhibitor Representatives Promoting Agricultural Products
Cai further noted that Quanzhou has developed favorable policies to encourage growth in high-quality agricultural sectors. For example, Anxi County has fostered 44 regional leading enterprises and successfully boosted its tea industry, with Anxi Tieguanyin tea brand valued at 143.2 billion yuan.
At the fair’s opening, visitors were treated to a wide array of high-quality agricultural products, from Anxi Tieguanyin and Dehua wine to local specialties like Inner Mongolia's meat products and Ningxia's salt lake sheep. Representatives from across China and various international agricultural leaders participated in the event, further highlighting Quanzhou’s growing influence in the agricultural sector.
“Quanzhou’s agricultural products are known for their excellent quality and distinct flavors,” said Kong Liang, Director of the Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Center. “We hope other provinces can follow Quanzhou’s example, leveraging local resources and agricultural strengths for long-term success.”
Deputy Mayor Su Gengcong emphasized that the city would continue to promote the development of high-quality agricultural brands, aiming for greater scale and profitability, as well as driving further modernization of Quanzhou’s agricultural industry.
