Mount Shiniu in Dehua (Photographed by Chen Yingjie)
Dehua, often known as the "Treasure House of Fujian," is a region renowned for its prestigious titles, including "World Ceramic City," "China’s Best Ecological Tourism County," and "Hometown of Chinese Tea." Its unique geography and rich natural resources have fostered a diverse range of plants and animals, forming the perfect foundation for the development of Dehua’s distinctive local cuisine.
Dehua is globally celebrated for its porcelain, particularly its white porcelain, which epitomizes the region's exceptional craftsmanship. During the Song and Yuan dynasties, Dehua’s white porcelain became a prized export along the Maritime Silk Road. The Italian explorer Marco Polo lauded its quality and beauty, while in the Ming Dynasty, the renowned ceramic artist He Chaozong, often called the "Saint of Porcelain," created his iconic "China White" pieces, which are now considered masterpieces of Eastern art.

Dehua is equally admired for its local produce. The region's extraordinary ecological environment has nurtured high-quality, sustainable ingredients, including the "Three Blacks" and "Three Yellows." The "Three Blacks" consist of black rabbit, black chicken, and black goat, while the "Three Yellows" feature Dehua pear (a yellow variety), daylilies, and camellia oil. Dehua is also home to rare delicacies such as yellow-flowered yam, specialty frog species, and Huai mountain, as well as a variety of mushrooms, including red mushrooms, shiitake, straw mushrooms, and orchids like golden thread and iron-clad Dendrobium.
The "Ceramic City Feast" presents a perfect fusion of Dehua’s famous porcelain and its exceptional local ingredients. Each dish is elegantly served in fine Dehua porcelain, offering a sensory experience that delights both the eyes and the palate. From the selection of premium natural ingredients to the use of exquisite ceramic tableware, every aspect of this experience reflects Dehua’s commitment to quality, tradition, and hospitality. This feast offers a rare opportunity to experience the essence of traditional Chinese culture, where nostalgia and beauty seamlessly intertwine.
