Beijing, April 19–23, 2024 — From April 19 to 23, the "Fujian Hospitality in Beijing: The Beauty of Dehua Ceramics and Cuisine" promotional event was held at the Fujian Mansion in Beijing. As part of this, the "Signature Dishes of Each County: Dehua Edition – A Feast of Dehua’s Culinary Heritage" also captivated attendees. The event showcased 15 iconic Dehua dishes, which were prepared and tasted by guests. Participants had the opportunity to explore Dehua’s distinctive ceramics while savoring local cuisine, immersing themselves in the cultural heritage of Dehua, recognized as the "World Ceramics City" by the World Crafts Council in 2015.
15 Dehua Signature Dishes Unveiled
This event, themed "The Beauty of Dehua Ceramics and Cuisine," aimed to support China’s economic recovery and align with provincial initiatives to promote local products, including Fujian cuisine. It also contributed to the continued implementation of the "China White: Dehua Ceramics Industry Five-Year Action Plan," focused on high-quality development in the ceramics sector.
Using a collaborative approach involving government support, strategic platform promotion, and business partnerships, the event showcased Dehua’s unique ceramic products, signature dishes, specialty agricultural products, and tourism resources to both the Beijing and national markets. This initiative served as a platform to promote Dehua’s local industries, expanding the reach of these cultural treasures beyond Quanzhou and Fujian to both national and international audiences. Additionally, it supported the expansion of direct sales channels for Dehua’s premium products.
Dehua Chefs Highlight Local Specialties
Dehua’s culinary showcase included dishes such as red mushroom noodles made with local red wine—known for its smooth texture and nourishing properties—tea oil-braised lamb, tea oil-fried catfish, and steamed pork with taro powder. A team of Dehua chefs prepared these dishes live at the event, using ingredients sourced directly from Dehua and transported to Beijing. The dishes were served on exquisite Dehua white porcelain, creating a sensory experience that delighted both the eyes and the palate—perfectly embodying the essence of Dehua’s culinary traditions.
The event saw a steady stream of visitors, and guests were impressed by the distinctive flavors of Dehua cuisine.
Promoting Dehua’s Cultural and Culinary Legacy
In addition to the culinary presentations, three specialized promotional sessions on Dehua’s ceramics, tourism, and specialty agricultural products were held. These sessions highlighted Dehua’s cultural richness, offering attendees an immersive experience of both Dehua’s renowned ceramic craftsmanship and its culinary traditions. The event attracted representatives from Beijing-based provincial offices, the Beijing Culinary Association, and various enterprises, with coverage from over 20 mainstream media outlets, including CCTV, China Daily, and Hainan TV.
Deputy Director of the Dehua County Industrial and Commercial Bureau, Chen Yibin, shared that Dehua is planning future events, such as the "Dehua Black Chicken Cup" Culinary Innovation and Fusion Cooking Contest in May and the “Ceramic Valley Wonderland and Food Culture Festival” in September, to further promote Dehua’s rich culinary and ceramic heritage.
