  Shenhu Dried Eel

Trademark Owner: Shenhu Snack Industry Association, Jinjiang

Shenhu Dried Eel is made from sea eels, specifically the sea eel and mountain mouth sea eel, which are abundant in the region and serve as important edible fish. The meat is thick, tender, and flavorful, with a high fat content, making it suitable for fresh consumption or preservation as dried salted products like canned eel or eel jerky. The best eel jerky comes from the Taiwan Strait.

To prepare, the dried eel is often soaked in water to soften, then shredded and added to soups, providing a pure and delicious flavor. Alternatively, it can be steamed with yellow wine, ginger, and green onions for a more delicate taste.

A signature dish in Shenhu is "Braised Dried Eel with Three-Layer Pork," a creative "surf and turf" fusion. The dried eel is cut into small pieces, lightly fried, then combined with ginger, onion, and Shenhu black pork. After adding water and soy sauce, the dish is simmered for 3 minutes and topped with sugar for a rich and savory flavor. The result is a unique and aromatic dish that is truly a delight.
