Chongyang Festival: A Heartwarming Tribute to the Elderly – Southeast Charity Association's Senior Care Initiative
Time: 2024-12-07 19:26

On 7 October 2024, during the Chongyang Festival, a day celebrated for its warmth and respect for the elderly, the Quanzhou Southeast Charity Association, in collaboration with the Licheng District Qinhua Community Committee and Class 21 of the Second Year at Quanzhou Fifth Middle School, organised a heartwarming event aimed at supporting elderly residents.

At 4 PM, 10 volunteers gathered at the Qinhua Community Committee office, where they were briefed on the event’s details and group assignments. Afterward, they joined community staff in visiting the homes of elderly residents. The initiative was focused on providing support to 10 low-income seniors, delivering essential goods such as rice, oil, milk, and cakes.

Throughout the visits, volunteers took the time to engage with the seniors, learning about their living conditions and needs, and listening to their stories. One elderly woman, aged 80 and living alone, particularly caught the volunteers' attention. Despite her limited mobility, she was lively and talkative. She held the hands of the young volunteers, encouraging them to study hard and contribute to the country. This heartfelt interaction left a lasting impression on all involved.

This event not only provided material assistance to elderly individuals in need but also offered much-needed emotional support. It showcased the Chinese cultural values of respect, care, and love for the elderly, ensuring that seniors felt the warmth and affection of society during this special occasion. It is hoped that such activities will inspire more people to join the effort in caring for the elderly, contributing to the creation of a harmonious and compassionate society. (Report by: Ruan Wenhua)
