Chongyang Festival: A Heartwarming Tribute to the Elderly – Southeast Charity Association's Senior Care Initiative
On 7 October 2024, the Quanzhou Southeast Charity Association, in collaboration with the Licheng District Qinhua Community Committee and Class 21 of the Second Year at Quanzhou Fifth Middle School, organised a heartwarming event to support elderly residents. Volunteers visited 10 low-income seniors, delivering essential items such as rice, oil, milk, and cakes. During the visits, they conversed with the seniors, understanding their living conditions and needs. One elderly woman, aged 80 and living alone, particularly touched the volunteers with her encouragement to study hard and contribute to society. The event not only provided material assistance but also offered emotional support, reinforcing the cultural values of respecting and caring for the elderly, and bringing warmth and affection to the seniors on this special occasion.

The couple, retired from factory jobs, decided to open the restaurant to keep themselves busy in their retirement. Their story has captured the hearts of many, not just because of the authentic Indonesian dishes they serve, but also due to their heartwarming love story and positive outlook on life. Their commitment to preserving traditional Indonesian flavours and passing down their cultural heritage has made their eatery a symbol of family bonding and cultural preservation in Quanzhou.

Quanzhou Partners with the China Culinary Association to Research the Food and Beverage Industry, Charting a Path for High-Quality Development
To promote the high-quality development of its food and beverage industry and strengthen its bid for UNESCO’s “City of Gastronomy” designation, Quanzhou has partnered with the China Culinary Association to develop the “Quanzhou Food and Beverage Industry High-Quality Development Plan.” Zhang Xiaowen, Vice President of the China Culinary Association, led an expert team on a field visit to Quanzhou, covering districts such as Nan’an, Shishi, and Licheng, gaining in-depth insights into the industry’s current landscape. The research highlighted Quanzhou’s rich culinary heritage, robust industry resources, and the international potential of its overseas Chinese community. Experts recommended resource integration and innovation-driven development to upgrade the food and beverage value chain. This research laid a solid foundation for drafting the plan, which is expected to be completed by January 2025.

43 Elderly Dining Halls Established in Jinjiang, Serving Over 4,000 People Daily
In recent years, Jinjiang has placed significant emphasis on elderly meal assistance services, expanding its "Elderly Dining Hall +" initiative. The city has established 43 elderly dining halls across all towns and subdistricts, serving over 4,000 elderly residents daily. Each dining hall has received a construction subsidy of 300,000 RMB from the municipal government, and services are supported by contributions from local communities, charitable organisations, and the public, enhancing the well-being and nutrition of the elderly. In 2024, in line with the national strategy to address population ageing, Jinjiang introduced the province’s first county-level smart elderly care service platform, offering a seamless service map for seniors. The city has also developed integrated care facilities, home-based care stations, and home care beds, benefiting over 1,500 elderly residents. More than 15 million RMB in subsidies for seniors has been distributed.

The dining hall provides a wide range of meal options for elderly residents, addressing the challenge of dining out and promoting social interaction among seniors, thereby enhancing community cohesion. Over 40 elderly individuals attended the event and registered for dining services, expressing how the hall makes them feel at home and look forward to meeting new friends. The District Civil Affairs Bureau announced plans to establish a series of distinctive, high-quality chain elderly dining halls across the district, improving the quality of life for seniors.

100 Days, 165,600 Bottles Distributed: Southeast Charity Collaborates with Various Sectors to Launch Water Donation Initiative
Since 1 July 2024, the "Free Water Distribution for Workers in High Temperatures" initiative, part of Quanzhou's "Serving the People" Civil Practice Campaign and the "Volunteer Passion" Volunteer Service Programme, has provided free bottled water to essential workers in high-temperature conditions. By 8 October, a total of 165,600 bottles of water had been distributed across 11 "love fridges" in the city, demonstrating the warmth and generosity of Quanzhou's residents. The initiative has been widely supported by local businesses and volunteers. The event, which has been running for 12 years and launched the "love fridge" project in 2018, promotes social goodwill and positive energy.
