Quanzhou Net, 10 July (Reporter Chen Yunqing; Correspondents Su Xiaohui, Chen Yinjiao) — To further strengthen food safety education in schools, enhance pupils' awareness, and build a robust safeguard for campus dining, staff from the Quanzhou Municipal Market Supervision Administration recently delivered an engaging food safety session at the Donghai Campus of Quanzhou No.1 High School.
Combining clear scientific explanations with lively Q&A activities, the session aimed to make food safety knowledge both accessible and memorable, helping to cultivate a safe and healthy eating environment on campus.
Using real-life examples — from recent school-related food safety incidents to issues highlighted by national media — officials illustrated why food safety matters. By unpacking the causes and consequences of these cases, they encouraged students to recognise the risks linked to poor eating habits.
Practical advice was shared on how to tell the difference between healthy food and junk food, what to look out for when purchasing food, and how to maintain good everyday hygiene. With illustrated displays and live demonstrations, pupils learned how to read food labels and spot unregulated "three-no" products — those with no production date, no certification, and no listed manufacturer. They were also reminded of the value of civilised dining, using serving spoons and chopsticks to prevent cross-contamination, and supporting the "Clean Plate" campaign to reduce waste.
To put their new knowledge to the test, a fun quiz rounded off the event, with enthusiastic participation and quick-fire answers on food safety topics. Organisers handed out food safety leaflets and small tokens to pupils who took part, encouraging them to take their new knowledge home and share it with their families. By teaching one child, the initiative aims to inspire an entire household to embrace healthy eating habits — helping to nurture a culture of safety and wellbeing that extends far beyond the school gates.
