Quanzhou Net, May 7 (Reporter: Chen Yunqing) — On May 3, a wedding seamlessly blending the cultural heritage of the Song and Yuan Dynasties took place at the Rongyu International Hotel in Jinjiang. As Quanzhou's first-ever wedding banquet to adopt the distinctive "Feast of Global Flavors" format, it captivated guests with its rich cultural atmosphere and innovative approach.
At the event, ceremonial staff dressed in vibrant red qipao with floral hairpins made a striking impression. The banquet tables, adorned with exquisite replica Ru Kiln porcelain and intricately designed menus in an antique style, became works of art even before the first course arrived. As ceremonial processions clad in Tang and Song dynasty attire entered the hall, traditional elements like banners, parasols, and scrolls were on full display, instantly infusing the celebration with a sense of dignity and festivity.
A dramatic "dish presentation show" further heightened the celebratory atmosphere, featuring culturally inspired dishes such as "Song-Inspired Floral Hairpin Pastries," "Dragons Riding the Waves," and "Mandarin Duck Roasted Pheasant." These culinary creations delighted guests' palates while showcasing Quanzhou's renowned culinary artistry.
"It was absolutely breathtaking—when the drums began, it felt like being transported back in time," remarked one guest. "The dishes were not only beautifully presented but also carried the authentic flavors of Quanzhou. This creative fusion of culture and cuisine was truly memorable." The guest added that they had already booked the same banquet for their daughter's coming-of-age celebration next year.
Explaining the inspiration behind the event, the groom's mother shared that after learning about Quanzhou's "Feast of Global Flavors" through her interest in local culinary traditions, she wanted to create a one-of-a-kind wedding celebration for her son and daughter-in-law. "A wedding banquet is, after all, an integral part of community life," she noted. "The 'Feast of Global Flavors' beautifully embodies Quanzhou's traditional culture. Hosting a wedding like this allows friends and family to experience firsthand the rich heritage of Quanzhou's culinary traditions."
