Tapping into the Cultural Tourism Wave: Quanzhou Hosts 2024 ICH Snack Conference

  On the afternoon of November 29, 2024, the inaugural Intangible Cultural Heritage Snack Conference opened in Quanzhou, Fujian Province. As a flagship event of the 2024 “Chinese Culinary Celebration” and the first China (Quanzhou) Silk Road Snack Festival, the conference spotlighted the vibrant intersection of culinary heritage, cultural tourism, and innovation.

  Jointly organised by the China Cuisine Association and Quanzhou Cultural Tourism Group, the conference welcomed a diverse group of experts, scholars, and culinary brand leaders. Centered on the theme of “Intangible Cultural Heritage,” the event featured engaging keynote speeches and discussions exploring how traditional snacks can evolve through innovation, gain new vitality through tourism integration, and achieve sustainable cultural transmission.

  Wang Xiqing, Special Vice President of the China Cuisine Association and Honorary Chairman of its Snack Committee, served as conference moderator.

  Keynote speakers included:

  Du Li, Academic Dean, Sichuan Cuisine and Food Culture Research Institute, Sichuan Tourism University

  Cheng Xiaomin, Associate Professor, School of Tourism and Culinary Arts, Yangzhou University

  Sun Lulu, Partner and General Manager of Investment Development, Yuyuan Cultural Cuisine Group

  Wang Huagui, General Manager, Tangshan Banquet, Kaige'er Group, Hebei

  Lin Jianqiang, Executive President, Quanzhou Licheng Historical and Cultural Society

  Together, they shared insights on revitalising culinary traditions and advancing the integration of gastronomy with cultural tourism—building bridges between heritage and modern dining experiences.
