  Hushan Lychee

Trademark Registrant: Hushan Agricultural Specialty Association, Yongchun County

Hushan Lychee, a premium fruit from Yongchun County, Fujian Province, is distinguished by its vibrant red skin with prominent, evenly colored segments. Its heart-shaped or oval fruits have translucent white flesh that is juicy, sweet, and refreshingly smooth. With thin skins, small seeds, and plump, luscious pulp, Hushan Lychee is rich in essential nutrients such as natural sugars, organic acids, and various vitamins, making it both delicious and nutritious.

The lychee's fame dates back to the Northern Song Dynasty when renowned calligrapher and writer Cai Xiang documented it in his Treatise on Lychees. During the Ming Dynasty, Minister of Rites Cao Xuequan praised it as the unrivaled "King of Fruits," the finest for fresh consumption.

By 2013, Hushan Town had about 30,000 lychee trees, including 2,500 century-old trees and 10,000 mature fruit-bearing trees. The annual output was nearly 500 tons, generating approximately 8.8 million yuan. As of 2021, the town’s lychee orchards expanded to 50,000 trees, producing up to 2,500 tons annually. The sector employs over 7,000 people, contributing 150 million yuan in annual revenue while benefiting from tax exemptions for agricultural products.

In November 2017, China's former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine granted Hushan Lychee official Geographical Indication Product Protection, solidifying its status as a premium agricultural brand.
